The delegation was led by Associate Administrator and astronaut Robert Cabana. Mr. Cabana held many high caliber positions throughout his career. He was on four space missions spending a total of thirty-eight days in space. Two Nasa staff accompanied Mr. Cabana on this historical visit to Al Nayzak.

Eng. Aref Husseini, Dr. Riyam Kafri and a group of AlNayzak’s senior leadership team welcomed the delegation. The visit began with a tour of the Science and Technology House, followed by a scientific presentation by Mr. Cabana. A Q & A session was held immediately after the presentation, and the students in a lively discussion with the guest. The session was completed with five student innovators from Horizons Academy and Tech Talent program show casing their innovative science and technology projects.

“It was just a dream to become a pilot,” is how Mr. Cabana began his presentation to more than forty students who came from across the region.  Mr. Cabana shared an engaging story of his scientific and professional career. “I am the first in my family to attend college,” he told the students, and proceeded to explain how he moved from being a Marine pilot to a mission commander on the space shuttle.

Mr. Cabana emphasized the great scientific strides made by NASA since the first rocket launch into space.  He shared images from the James Webb Space Telescope that was recently made public, and shared that by the year 2025, the first woman will land on the moon.

Ms. Emily Green the Cultural Affairs Attaché added “We are so proud of our collaboration with Al Nayzak and honored to have supported Mr. Cabana’s visit.  It was inspiring to watch the connections between these exceptional students and a NASA astronaut and look forward to seeing students continue to excel in STEEM subjects.”

On his part, Eng. Aref commended the exceptional talents of the students and their dedication. He also expressed gratitude to Mr. Cabana and the accompanying delegation for providing young students with the opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to NASA’s accomplishments and initiatives. Additionally, Eng. Aref expressed a desire for the partnership between AlNayzak Organization and NASA to continue, to benefit youth, particularly in the area of space physics.

In the end, students thanked Mr. Cabana for his time and inspiring words, to which he responded that he enjoyed every minute of this evening, and that he is happy to meet an innovative young generation who overcomes limited resources through science and technology.
